The commemoration was hold on the one-year anniversary of the first known death of Covid in New York City
The New York Philharmonic played “Dectet” as black and white images of New Yorkers killed by the virus were projected onto the Brooklyn Bridge in a memorial service called “A COVID-19 Day of Remembrance.” The toll skyrocketed to over 30,000 lives lost — more than 10 times the number of people killed on Sept. 11, 2001.
Mayor Bill de Blasio takes a moment of silence during a commemoration ceremony to remember New Yorkers lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.
We carry the hearts of those we’ve lost — the moms, the dads, the grandparents. All that was great about them lives on in their sons and daughters and grandchildren.
