Many gorillas of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park tested positive to Covid-19: it is believed to be the first infections among these primates forced into captivity.

Park executive director Lisa Peterson said eight individuals have many symptoms, most notably coughing. It seems that the infection derives from a member of the assistance staff who tested positive for the virus but asymptomatic. Vets are closely monitoring the gorillas, who will remain in the park, Peterson explained. Although other wildlife have already contracted the coronavirus, from minks to tigers, no gorillas are believed to have been infected in zoos across the United States and around the world.
